Selection Criteria
Students with a GPA of 4.5 or higher are invited to apply for entrance to the NJHS

Application is complete and submitted by the deadline.

Leadership: Activity that clearly identifies the student managing other people or taking initiative/leadership roles.
Examples include but not limited to:

Captain of a team
-
Elected Officer for student body
-
Leader of a class or club
-
Newspaper or yearbook editor (with recognition by a teacher(s).

Classroom leader with recognition and signature by a teacher(s).

Community Service: Each applicant must have at least 10 hours of community service during their middle school years. Community service includes activities done on the behalf of others, (NOT Family Members) for which no compensation (monetary or otherwise) has been given.

Citizenship (School Based): (Below are descriptions of activities that qualify for citizenship. These are activities that occur before or after school hours. 7th grade students must document involvement in 6th and 7th grade. For 8th graders applying, students must show involvement in at least 7th and 8th grade.

Citizenship (Community Based): Applicants must show involvement in activities outside of school. 7th grade students must document involvement in 6th and 7th grade. For 8th graders applying, students must show involvement in at least 7th and 8th grade.
Examples include but not limited to:
- Girl Scouts
- Boy Scouts
- Town Sports Leagues
- Youth Groups
- Art Clubs
- Martial Arts
- Music Ensembles
Note: All students have recommendations submitted by a teacher. These are kept on file and are available for review.
