Please carefully review with your child the section in the student handbook (linked below) regarding cell phones. According to the EGPS Policy #10200 Use of Electronic Devices in Schools 6.24.25, during the school day, students may not have access to personal electronic devices. Personal devices must be stored away and may only be accessed with explicit authorization from EGPS staff or as provided through an approved accommodation or authorized exception, including on buses. If you rely on cell phones to communicate before/after school, please talk to your child ahead of time and make sure they are aware of the after-school arrangements, as they will not be permitted to check their cell phones at dismissal. Please reiterate to your child that while it is not acceptable for students to text/call/check their cell phones at any point on school grounds, students are ALWAYS encouraged to use the office phone to call home when they have a question or an issue. Parents are also encouraged to call the office if a plan changes in the middle of the day, as we are happy to get a message to your child.
SMART WATCHES: Many parents use smart watches to track their child and make sure they have arrived safely, to and from school. This will be permitted, provided the watches are locked in the students’ lockers upon arrival and remain there for the entire school day. Watches can be put back on as students leave the building, but should not be used to communicate until they are off school grounds and/or buses.
